Dad

My Dad, Koduvayur Subramaniam Vaidyanathan, is a veteran of the shipping industry, having worked in it for over 30 years, first with the Madras Port Trust, then with the Shipping Corporation of India and finally with the ALankar Shipping and CLearing agencies, before retiring. He graduated from the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Madras, majoring in Economics, much before I graduated from the same place. He also represented the wrstwhile Madras State in the Ranji Trophy, being a competent right hand bat and right arm off spinner. He is very fond of Tamil Litreature and English Litreature. I heard that he once went all the way to North Chennai just to hear Annadurai speak at a political meeting and savour the richness of the Tamil Language as spoken by Annadurai. Of course he came back home late to the extreme disapproval of my grandparents for attending a political rally. I inherited my own love for Tamil and English litreature from him as well as the correctness of my english - as well as his unconditional love to me.

Mom

Mrs. Bhagirathy Vaidyanathan, nee K.C.Bhagirathy is self made in all respects and extremely talented. She credits my late uncle K.C.Sankaranarayanan for developing her knowledge in the face of orthodoxy, and my late Aunt Mrs. Meera Sankaranarayanan for bringing this out for the world to see. Her father did not allow her to study more than 4 years at school, so she was literally home schooled throughout her life. It did not help that much of her school going age was wasted in the war torn years. if you were to speak to her you would think she has graduated from the best colleges with the highest grades. She can converse on any topic under the sun with astuteness and foresight. Like my dad she is also capable of unconditional love and from both of them I have learnt never to be undemonstrative in love.
